Deleón in Washington
2011

Referencing the Korda photograph, I went to the Lincoln monument on a very busy day and spent nearly an hour standing at this spot waiting for tourists to clear the frame in order to take this picture. While at the feet of the statue, I tried to imagine what was going through Fidel's mind, over 50 years ago, as he stood at this very spot, and whether he anticipated the tense relationship with the United States that would so define the post-war generation.
