pen on newspaper

commissioned in 2012 in Boston from the artist Adric Giles
This graphic intervention on a Spanish-language newspaper about the trade embargo, depicts the relationship between the ideologically motivated trade sanctions imposed by the U.S. on Cuba and that island’s now primarily rhetorical admonishment of Capitalism, as amounting to not much more than a pitiable anatomical contest between two arguably “mature” male representatives of their respective nations.
“Aside from being an imperialist remnant from the Cold War era, the embargo on Cuba by the U.S. seems to me to be the best excuse the Cuban government has to explain its economic deficiencies.”
- Yoani Sánchez, Cuban dissident blogger in Brasil, 2013
