The punishment fits the crime
The punishment fits the crime
2015

Performed live and broadcast from Flux Factory, Long Island City, NY for STROBE Network's "HUMAN TRASH DUMP" program curated by Elizabeth Lamb, Butch Merigoni, and David Ian Griess

Throughout the piece, I, dressed in this children's FBI costume, perform a custom exercise routine designed by Olympic weightlifter/performance artist Kledia Spiro for 'someone in law enforcement'. I chose to do the exercises (weighted squats, push-ups, sit-ups, and hill climbers) in 9-1-1 reps, managing to complete 4 sets before quitting of exhaustion. The FBI costume is soiled at the beginning of the performance. Swans' industrial, no-wave track "Cop" plays on loop. At one point I tie the cinder block around myself with rope and carry/drag it through the audience while sneering at them and stealing their beer/money as well as interacting with a small office golf installation on site.

"Swans are majestic, beautiful looking creatures. With really ugly temperaments." - Michael Gira

'Nothing beats ya like a cop with a club
Nothing beats their heads in like a cop in jail
Nobody burns their skin like a cop with a match
Nobody has as much fun as a cop when he burns
Humiliation's a disease'
