portfolio > Looking Ahead and Looking Back

This piece began as a fascination with the 1959 photograph "Fidel in Washington" by Alberto Korda, which depicts the Cuban leader presenting the Lincoln monument with a holiday wreath.

The piece consists of two photographs (the Korda photograph juxtaposed with a modern version of that event with myself standing in for Fidel) and two monitors showing different angles of a durational performance I orchestrated with my father (a staunch anti-Castrista), in formal evening wear, reacting to a giant projected image of a smiling Fidel, to the tune of Midnight, the Stars and You by Al Bowlly.
